Meghan Markle’s latest culinary adventure has left fans scratching their heads and not in a good way.
The Duchess of Sussex, shared a coy winter recipe on Instagram for what she called a “really soothing warm beverage,” using her $16 Spiced Cider Mulling Spice Kit from her lifestyle brand, As Ever. Advertisement
She brought a large pot of water to a boil, steeped the spices off the heat, ladled into mugs, then dropped in cinnamon sticks, lemon, and a teaspoon of her $28 honey.
For those who like a grown-up twist, she suggested adding a splash of alcohol but insisted it’s equally comforting sans booze.
Fans quickly pointed out that Meghan had essentially invented “mulled water.”
One X user quipped, “Wouldn’t you add the spices to apple cider? Or wine? Not WATER?” Another likened it to a simmering pot real estate agents use to make homes smell nice during viewings.
Comments poured in, lampooning the Duchess’s attempt at seasonal cheer, “Looks like she was making a spicy tea because she has no idea what she is really doing. Madame Fake-It-Till-You-Make-It-Montecito,” wrote one.
Another added, “She creates a simmer pot and then serves it to guests as a beverage…what should we expect from the person labelling tisanes as tea?”
Markle’s latest foray into festive fare has left fans both intrigued and bewildered.
As part of her lifestyle brand, As Ever, the Duchess of Sussex recently released a collection featuring a hot toddy and mulled cider spice kit and she’s making sure everyone knows exactly how to enjoy them.
The hot toddy kit, priced as a “holiday entertaining essential,” comes in a 43g muslin bag with eight servings of aromatic cinnamon, lemongrass, lemon peel, and ginger root.
According to Meghan, it’s perfect ladled into a mug, poured into a punch glass with spirit, or enjoyed alcohol free during an après-ski session or a chilly tree-scouting adventure.
Vintage mugs, cinnamon sticks, and movie nights with popcorn are all part of her “favourite way” to sip.
But Meghan’s kitchen escapades haven’t always gone smoothly. Earlier this year, her first cookery show left viewers scratching their heads with unorthodox methods and a pasta dish that ruffled some Italian feathers.
Most recently, fans noticed she appeared to be holding jam-making equipment upside down during a photoshoot for As Ever, despite previously declaring “jam is my jam” and launching her first-ever raspberry spread. |
