Sylvester Stallone’s Tulsa King lays off crew members

Sylvester Stallone’s Tulsa King left several crew members stunned just as Season 4 gears up to roll cameras.

According to Deadline, 26 people from its roughly 600-person crew were told they would not be returning, despite earlier expectations they’d be part of the new season after the show received a two-year renewal tied to Sylvester Stallone’s 2024 deal. Advertisement

Those affected worked across a range of departments, including sound, camera operation, stunts, rigging, transportation, the production office, extras casting, hair, and photography.

Many said they found out only weeks before filming was set to begin, “at the buzzer,” as one person put it.

All of the roles are expected to be replaced.

Among the departures is Freddie Poole, a two-time Emmy nominee for stunt coordinating on Tulsa King.

Poole, who has doubled for Stallone for 14 years, said he was informed within two weeks of his scheduled start date that he would no longer be needed.

He was told by 101 Studios the decision was made for “creative reasons” and was offered a photo-double role instead, which he turned down.

“I feel really bad for the Atlanta film community with just the way things went down,” Poole shared. He added that he had never seen turnover at this level in his three decades in the business.

Chad Gregory, who served as Stallone’s stand-in for all three previous seasons, learned through friends that he wasn’t being brought back.

He said he discovered his former position, which previously paid $250 per day, had been reposted for $400 a day.

Gregory noted that while he understands the industry is a business, it still felt like a blow to those affected.

Neither Paramount nor 101 Studios commented on the situation.

Sources connected to the production maintained that seasonal crew changes are standard and that no affected employee held a contract. They also said budget cuts were not behind the decision, pointing out that the roles are being refilled rather than eliminated.

Season 4 was already seeing notable changes behind the scenes.

Terence Winter, who ran the first season and later returned as head writer and executive producer in Season 2, is back in a larger role. Dave Erickson, who served as showrunner for Season 3, is departing.

The shake-up comes just ahead of larger company-wide disruption.

Earlier this week, news broke that Taylor Sheridan is leaving Paramount for a major film and TV agreement with NBCUniversal. His new five-year overall deal begins in 2029, after his current pact ends.

And on Wednesday, Paramount confirmed sweeping layoffs, with about 1,000 U.S. employees cut in the first round and roughly another 1,000 expected to follow, adding to the uncertainty surrounding Tulsa King’s latest season.
