US President Donald Trump received Silla Gold Crown Replica from South Korean counterpart Lee Jae Myung on Wednesday as part of his Asia tour.
Trump also received South Korea’s highest honor, “Grand Order of Mugunghwa“, named after the country’s national flower, a pink hibiscus.
The country’s highest decoration was awarded due to Trump’s peacekeeping efforts in the Korean peninsula as reported by the presidential office.
The replica of the crown belonged to the kings of Silla, the dynasty ruled from 57 BC to 935 AD.
The crown represented “the divine connection between heavenly and earthly leadership.”
“I\“d like to wear it right now,“ Trump said when presented with the prestigious award in a lavish ceremony in the South Korean capital of Gyeongju.
As per a South Korean official, Trump was the first US president to receive the honour.
Trump landed in South Korea as part of his Asia trip. Previously, he made stops in Malaysia and Japan, securing deals in various domains.
In South Korea, Trump is expected to hold trade talks with President Lee Jae Myung and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
President Lee is hoping to secure concessions from Trump by reducing US tariffs on South Korea. |
