The Kallada Boat Race 2024 is one of Kerala\“s most celebrated traditional water sports events, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of India\“s southern state. This annual competition features magnificent snake boats known as Chundan Vallams, which are locally crafted using traditional methods passed down through generations.
These majestic boats are made from high-quality wood sourced from Kerala\“s forests, with each boat requiring skilled artisans months to build. The paddles used by the rowers are also locally manufactured, carved from sturdy Indian woods that can withstand the rigorous demands of the race.
Participants wear traditional Kerala attire, including the distinctive white dhoti and turbans, all made from locally produced cotton fabrics. The event also promotes various indigenous products, from coconut oil used to massage the rowers\“ muscles to traditional Ayurvedic medicines that help in their recovery.
