Kabaddi is a traditional Indian sport that originated in the state of Tamil Nadu. The name \“Kabaddi\“ is derived from the Tamil word \“kai-pidi\“, which means \“holding hands\“. This ancient sport has been played in India for thousands of years and is now recognized as the national sport of Bangladesh.
The game involves two teams of seven players each, where one player from the attacking team (known as the \“raider\“) enters the opponent\“s half to tag as many defenders as possible while chanting \“kabaddi, kabaddi\“ without taking a breath. The sport requires strength, speed, and strategic thinking, making it a popular rural sport across India.
Today, Kabaddi has gained international recognition through tournaments like the Pro Kabaddi League and is played in various countries including Iran, South Korea, Japan, and Argentina. The sport continues to evolve while maintaining its traditional roots in Indian culture. |
