Skai Jackson is going viral for her…interesting financial life hack.   Phillip Faraone / Getty Images
This week, the TikTok account @recessionobsession posted videos featuring a variety of celebrities sharing their money-saving tips. Winnie Harlow, for example, advised people to “read The Richest Man in Babylon” to learn how to “manage” their funds, while influencer Gabby Gonzalez said that her financial tip was to “invest in yourself.”   Pg / Getty Images
But it’s Skai’s advice that has really taken off online. The 23-year-old, who is best known for her past role on the Disney Channel series Jessie, earnestly told viewers, “A life hack [for] how you can save money is, any type of cash that you get, just put it in a money jar and store it up. And then that thing will fill up, and then you’ll have money saved!” @recessionobsession / Via tiktok.com
Reacting to Skai’s “money saving tip,” one user said, “it’s the fact that she’s dead serious that’s frying me.” Another comment with over 50,000 likes read, “She invented a piggy bank.” @recessionobsession / Via tiktok.com

“She said ‘to save money you save money,’” someone wrote, while another user quipped, “revolutionary economist skai jackson.”

“Fork found in kitchen,“ someone else joked. “Step one, have money,“ another comment read.

Sharing the clip on X, one user quipped, “Omg I’ve never done that, imma try that!”

The clip has currently received over a million views on TikTok, and over 1.2M on X.
Meanwhile, the viral video left some internet users looking back on the time that Skai faced criticism for asking her fans for $5 for the chance to win a new MacBook in a raffle. Prince Williams / Getty Images
Skai defended herself after the move sparked backlash in 2023, saying, “It is not that serious for a damn $5. It is called a raffle. I don\“t know if you guys have been to school before, but I know I\“ve been to school, and we used to have raffles all the time.” Rodin Eckenroth / Getty Images

“I do not need money. Me personally, I do not need money,” she later added. “And I\“m not saying this in a bragging way, or anything like that, or in a mean way. I\“m just letting you guys know I do not personally need money. Like, I\“m very fine in my life.”

Looking back on the MacBook drama now, one TikTok user quipped in response to her financial life hack, “Or ask people for $ on live and say it’s for a MacBook ‘giveaway,’” while someone else commented, “Who won her raffle for a Mac book?”
Well then! Let us know what you think in the comments.
