There are some MASSIVE spoilers ahead!

1. First, Archie Panjabi, who played Kalinda Sharma on The Good Wife, left the series after the Season 6 finale. Rumors began circulating that a feud existed between Panjabi and Julianna Margulies, with the duo reportedly not having shared a scene together in three years. After the finale aired, viewers even noticed that it didn\“t look like Panjabi and Margulies filmed their final scene together, where Kalinda and Alicia say goodbye at a bar. It was revealed that body doubles were used, and they didn\“t actually film the moment in the same room.   CBS

According to TVLine in 2015, the two filmed scenes with Panjabi and Margulies, respectively, were spliced together in post-production.

At the time, Margulies dismissed the rumors, telling Vulture, “It’s totally gossip. I heard that question had been asked to Robert King. There’s no story there, sorry. … I actually had heard [that rumor] and I feel that it has been talked about and answered. I feel people just like to have gossip or make something into something that isn’t there. There’s no animosity on my part.“

After the Season 6 finale, Margulies claimed that the reason she and Panjabi did not film the scene together was due to Panjabi\“s shooting schedule for The Fall. Panjabi quickly refuted that, tweeting, “@TheFallTV was not even in production at that time and I was in New York ready to film the scene!“
2. Heidi Swedberg starred in 28 episodes of Seinfeld as Susan, George\“s fiancée, until her character was killed off after licking poisonous envelopes. Swedberg was written off the show after a reported conflict with the rest of the cast, especially Jason Alexander. He explained that he “couldn\“t figure out how to play off of her“ when it came to comedy. After Jerry Seinfeld and Julia Louis-Dreyfus began to share more scenes with her, they understood Alexander\“s frustrations. “They go, \“You know what? It’s f—ing impossible. It’s impossible,\““ Alexander recalled. Then, creator Larry David decided to kill off Susan.   NBC

Alexander stressed in an interview with Howard Stern that they didn\“t have anything against Swedberg\“s personality, she just did not fit in with the comedy and behind-the-scenes culture on Seinfeld.

He also clarified that while they joked they wanted to “kill“ Susan, they did not have any ill will against Swedberg.
3. Julie McCullough starred as Julie Costello in 11 episodes of Growing Pains, starting in Season 4. However, when it came time to film Julie and Mike\“s wedding, Julie was written off the show in the form of leaving Mike (Kirk Cameron) at the altar. McCullough alleged that her firing stemmed from Cameron\“s conversion to evangelical Christianity, and he reportedly did not approve of her posing for Playboy. “He was so adamant about not having me on the show. Not marrying my character. The whole deal,“ she explained. McCullough alleged that Cameron threatened to leave the show for the final two seasons if she was not fired. ABC

On The Patrick LabyorSheaux podcast, McCullough explained, “We got along so great in the beginning, and we were really good together. We had good chemistry, but it just went from A to Z. ... My character was popular. We were popular as a TV couple.“

After Playboy published nude photos of her, she went back to the set of Growing Pains for the following season, and she said she noticed the crew breaking down Julie\“s apartment set. Then, she read the script for the wedding episode, and found out she was being written off the show by Julie leaving Mike at the altar.
4. Jay Thomas appeared as Eddie LeBec for nine episodes of Cheers starting in Season 5, and became a love interest for Carla (Rhea Perlman). According to director James Burrows, while Thomas was doing a radio interview about the show, he reportedly said, “It\“s brutal. I have to kiss Rhea Perlman.“ Burrows revealed that because Thomas insulted Perlman, “that was it,“ and he was written off the show. In his book, Burrows writes, “He insulted Rhea, which meant he insulted all of us. He crossed the family.“ NBC

He continued, writing in Directed by James Burrows, “Jay was fired unceremoniously. Since he was no longer on the show, Eddie also had to go. In our world, you don’t wind up sleeping with the fishes; you die a violent yet comedic death.“
5. Shannen Doherty played Prue Halliwell in three seasons of Charmed alongside Holly Marie Combs and Alyssa Milano. However, after Season 3, Prue was killed and replaced by Paige (Rose McGowan). Doherty alleged that her feud with Milano was the reason she was fired, with Combs agreeing. Combs claimed producer Jonathan Levin told her, “We\“re basically in a position where it’s one or the other. We were told [by Alyssa] that it\“s [Shannen] or me, and Alyssa has threatened to sue us for a hostile workplace environment.“ With Doherty adding, “I don\“t ever remember being mean to [Milano] on set.“ Warner Bros

Milano denied these claims, saying, “I’m the most sad for the fans. I’m the most sad that a show that has meant so much to so many people has been tarnished by a toxicity that is still to this day, almost a quarter of a century later, still happening.“

In 2025, on the Charmed rewatch podcast, The House of Halliwell, Combs said, “There was just so many different ways it could have been handled.“ She added that it was “so sick and twisted“ to let Doherty direct the Season 3 finale, too, knowing that she was going to be fired.

Brian Krause, who played Leo Wyatt, added on the podcast, “Nobody wants to speak their truth because they feel like they\“ll be hated by the fandom, by the thing, by their former workers.“ Combs ranked the episode as one of the series\“ worst because of the behind-the-scenes drama.
6. Isaiah Washington was fired from Grey\“s Anatomy in 2007 — Burke left Cristina at the altar in the Season 3 finale — after calling T.R. Knight an anti-gay slur on set. This reportedly led to a physical fight between him and Patrick Dempsey. In 2025, creator Shonda Rhimes reflected on Washington\“s firing with the Hollywood Reporter, saying, “I think the thorn was having the bubble of joy burst so early on Grey’s [with the Washington incident] and not having anybody interested in helping us deal with it, because that really shaped a lot of how we looked at the world going forward. ... It’s funny, every Grey’s actor I talk to who was there during that time is still traumatized by that incident.“ ABC

In the book How to Save a Life: The Inside Story of Grey\“s Anatomy, writer Harry Werksman detailed the moment, saying, “And Isaiah, for whatever reason that day, just took [Patrick being late] the wrong way, and he went after Patrick. I guess he felt disrespected that he and the crew had been waiting. He went after Patrick, pushed him up against the wall, and said, \“You can\“t talk to me the way you talk to that little f----- T.R.\““

At the time, Washington publicly denied ever saying that about Knight, with numerous other cast members, like Katherine Heigl, calling out Washington\“s behavior.

7. Kevin Costner starred as John Dutton in Yellowstone for five seasons, until he left the show ahead of its final episodes. In order to explain his departure, John was killed. Behind the scenes, it was revealed that Costner and creator Taylor Sheridan had a huge falling out. On set, Costner and Wes Bentley, who played Jamie, reportedly got into a fight when Costner suggested he ditch Sheridan\“s script, with Bentley allegedly saying he signed up for a Sheridan show, not a Costner one. A source told the Hollywood Reporter, “Kevin didn\“t like that, and he lunged at him. No fists were thrown, but they were in each other’s faces, pushing and shoving and just getting hot until they had to be separated.“ Paramount Network

Kelly Reilly, who played Beth, was reportedly in the scene with Bentley and Costner and was “in tears,“ with production having to halt.

Sheridan and Costner\“s falling out allegedly stemmed from Costner asking to depart the show so he could focus on his Horizon film franchise, which has been put on hold indefinitely after the first film was a box office flop.

Eventually, Yellowstone scripts were rewritten once it was apparent that John Dutton would not be in the remaining six episodes of the series. Sheridan told the Hollywood Reporter, “I\“m disappointed. It truncates the closure of his character. It doesn’t alter it, but it truncates it.“
8. McLean Stevenson portrayed Lt. Col. Henry Blake in 72 episodes of M*A*S*H. In the Season 3 finale, one of the show\“s most memorable episodes, Blake is honorably discharged only for his plane to be shot down. Stevenson\“s departure marked a significant turning point for the series and was reportedly brought on by his resentment at playing a supporting role to Alan Alda\“s Hawkeye. Loretta Swit, who played Margaret “Hot Lips“ Houlihan, said Stevenson told her he had to leave the show so he could be “number one“ somewhere else. CBS

He went on to star in The McLean Stevenson Show, Hello, Larry, and Condo, with all of these shows being short-lived. The Chicago Tribune wrote that Stevenson had “worn out his television welcome“ on “forgettable efforts“ like the shows listed above.

According to the LA Times, Stevenson later conceded that leaving M*A*S*H was the biggest mistake of his career.

9. Janet Hubert left The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air after she was offered a “bad deal“ during Season 3, with her salary reportedly being cut. The series famously recast Aunt Viv, who was then played by Daphne Maxwell Reid for the rest of the show\“s run. At this time, Hubert and Will Smith had a very public feud, with Smith admitting in 2020 that he made the set “very difficult for Janet.“ Hubert said she “lost everything“ after rumors of a feud with Smith, being difficult on set, and other issues spread in the press. NBC

In The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air 30-year reunion on HBO Max, Hubert spoke for the first time about her departure from the show and how “Hollywood disowned“ her because of the rumors that she was difficult to work with. She said, “But you know those words, calling a Black woman difficult in Hollywood, is the kiss of death.“

In 2025, Hubert told CNN that she and Smith\“s relationship is “so good“ now.
10. For seven years, Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic played Castle and Beckett on Castle, with their characters being shipped together. However, after Season 8, it was reported that Katic would not return for a potential ninth season, with Deadline reporting she was leaving due to “budgetary reasons.“ At the time, a source alleged to Us Weekly that Katic and Fillion “completely despise each other. They will not speak when they are off set, and this has been going on for seasons now.“ Instead of writing Beckett off the show, the series was canceled instead. ABC

A second insider alleged to Us Weekly, “Stana would go in her dressing room and cry. A lot of people who work on the show don’t like Nathan. It’s not just her. The friction was very evident. Nathan has been nasty to Stana for a long time. Stana was a pro, just wanted to get in there and do her job.“

At the time of Katic\“s departure, Fillion tweeted, “Stana has been my partner all this time, and I thank her for creating the character Beckett who will live on for all of us as one of the greatest police officers on television. I wish her well, and have no doubt she will succeed in everything she pursues. She will be missed.“ Many fans responded that they would not watch the show without Katic.
11. Lethal Weapon costars Damon Wayans and Clayne Crawford reportedly had issues with each other from the start of the reboot series. After just two seasons, Wayans and Crawford\“s animosity toward each other allegedly escalated, with Variety reporting there was so much fighting that production came to a “halt on multiple occasions.“ In a video obtained by Variety, one incident reportedly featured Wayans and Crawford yelling at each other on set, with Crawford saying, “You’re the biggest crybaby pussy I’ve ever met in my life.“ Crawford was fired after the second season, and his character was subsequently killed. Fox

The Hollywood Reporter stated that Crawford was fired due to bad behavior on set, with Crawford reportedly apologizing for two specific incidents that happened before he was let go.

In 2018, Crawford claimed, while on the Drinkin\“ Bros podcast, that he was being blackmailed to keep quiet about his issues with Wayans and overall production conditions.
12. For five seasons, Nicollette Sheridan starred as Edie Britt on Desperate Housewives. But her storyline came to an end when her character was killed in a car accident toward the end of Season 5. Sheridan\“s firing came after a reported on-set feud between her and Teri Hatcher. Creator Marc Cherry recalled, “They were furious with each other. Nicollette pulled me aside and told me that Teri Hatcher was the meanest woman in the world because of how she was acting.“ He also claimed Sheridan was unprofessional on set, adding that “she made insulting comments about her dialogue“ and was “hugely rude“ to writers and crew members. ABC

At the same time, Sheridan claimed Cherry hit her in the head on one occasion. In court, Cherry claimed he hit Sheridan with “[his] fingers“ on his right hand, and immediately showed remorse, and felt her allegations were “outrageous.“ ABC\“s human resources department cleared Cherry at the time of the alleged incident.

While in court, Sheridan\“s lawyer also testified that he was unable to get her an acting job “for several years“ after she was fired from Desperate Housewives.
13. Pauley Perrette starred as Abby Sciuto on 15 seasons of NCIS before she left the show. At the time, rumors spread about her departure stemming from a feud between her and Mark Harmon, which started after Harmon reportedly brought his dog to set and it bit a crew member, who then needed 15 stitches. Perrette also alleged there was a physical altercation between herself and Harmon. In 2019, Perrette doubled down on her feud with Harmon, tweeting, “NO I AM NOT COMING BACK! EVER! (Please stop asking?) I am terrified of Harmon and him attacking me. I have nightmares about it.“ CBS

In 2018, Perrette claimed in a series of tweets that “multiple physical assaults“ were what led to her leaving NCIS. CBS released a statement regarding the claims, saying, “Pauley Perrette had a terrific run on NCIS and we are all going to miss her. Over a year ago, Pauley came to us with a workplace concern. We took the matter seriously and worked with her to find a resolution. We are committed to a safe work environment on all our shows.“

14. For nearly four seasons, Chevy Chase played Pierce Hawthorne on Community. However, in the middle of Season 4, Chase was let go from the show in what was called a “mutual agreement.“ His departure came after he allegedly used the n-word while filming a scene with Donald Glover and Yvette Nicole Brown. Prior to his exit, there were rumors of tension between Chase and Glover. According to Glover, Chase repeatedly made racist jokes to him and commented, “People think you\“re funnier because you\“re Black.“ NBC

Chase doesn\“t deny the remarks he made toward Glover, saying, “I could have said it.“

With a Community movie still in the works, Joel McHale said Chase isn\“t “allowed“ to appear in it. He said, “I don’t think he’s allowed to [return],” McHale said. “I don’t think it would happen. I don’t think [him returning] is a thing. Obviously his unceremonious departure in Season 4 pretty much did that in.“
15. And finally, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall starred together as Carrie and Samantha in Sex and the City for six seasons. However, there was reported tension between Cattrall and the cast on set. She had described her former costars as “toxic,“ and alleged off-screen tension around a proposed third movie. Cattrall and Parker have gone back and forth for years, with Cattrall saying that she and the other women were “never friends, just colleagues,“ while Parker replied, “I found it very upsetting. That\“s not the way I recall our experience.“ HBO

When asked about why she sat out And Just Like That..., Cattrall told Variety, “I was never asked to be part of the reboot. I made my feelings clear after the possible third movie, so I found out about it like everyone else did — on social media.“

Meanwhile, Parker confirmed Cattrall was not asked back, noting, “She made it clear that that wasn’t something she wanted to pursue, and it no longer felt comfortable for us, and so it didn’t occur to us.“

However, in Season 2, Cattrall made a brief appearance when Samantha talked to Carrie on the phone.
