Andrew allegations cast shadow over King Charles’s inner circle

King Charles may find himself uncomfortably close to fresh controversy surrounding his embattled younger brother, as one of his most trusted aides has been linked to a period when Prince Andrew allegedly attempted to have his late accuser, Virginia Giuffre, investigated.

Lord Peter Rosslyn now serving as Lord Steward and Personal Secretary to the King and Queen was head of Royalty and Diplomatic Protection between 2003 and 2014, a tenure that reportedly coincides with Andrew’s alleged approach to a Metropolitan Police bodyguard in 2011.  Advertisement

According to Sky News, the Duke of York is said to have asked his protection officer to “dig up dirt” on Ms Giuffre, whose claims against him later became central to one of the monarchy’s most damaging scandals.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed over the weekend that they are “actively looking into” the allegations. It remains unclear whether Lord Rosslyn, known at the time as Commander Peter Loughborough, was informed of Andrew’s reported request.

Police insiders told Sky that the seriousness of the alleged approach would likely have required escalation to senior officials though they acknowledged several layers of command may have existed between the officer and Lord Rosslyn.

Now serving at the very heart of the royal household, Lord Peter Rosslyn holds one of the most trusted positions in King Charles’s inner circle.

As Lord Steward and Personal Secretary to the King and Queen, he oversees all aspects of the monarch’s personal affairs and non-state matters.

Among those familiar with palace operations, he is regarded as one of the King’s most dependable aides, a steady hand who has long commanded the monarch’s confidence.

Sky News was directed to Buckingham Palace, which, when approached by The People’s Channel, advised that inquiries should be made to the Metropolitan Police.

Scotland Yard, meanwhile, reiterated its position on the matter, telling GB, “We are aware of media reporting and are actively looking into the claims made” regarding Prince Andrew’s alleged attempt to involve his protection officer in investigating Virginia Giuffre.
