 Ryan Reynolds gets emotional talking about new project
Ryan Reynolds recently worked on a project that he felt on a personal level, because of the similarities between himself and the subject of his documentary.
The 48-year-old actor produced a documentary about John Candy, whom he deeply admired all his life.
The Deadpool star shared that this project was really close to his heart because “I see a lot of elements in my own life when I look at John. Beyond the obvious ones, he’s Canadian and he owned a sports team, he [also] had this sort of tendency to act like he was running out of time. Unfortunately, in John’s case, he was.”
The documentary, John Candy: I Like Me, is now available to stream, and it features Candy’s family, close friends, and co-stars – including Catherine O’Hara, Eugene Levy, and Martin Short, who all had heartwarming stories to share about the actor who passed away at just 43 due to a heart attack.
Elaborating on the documentary, Reynolds told People Magazine, “I can’t say how he is in real life, but hearing people share their stories of their time with John, there’s always one common denominator there: he was a good person when nobody was watching. These days, that’s more of a fleeting resource than we realize.”
Speaking about his adoration for Candy, the Free Guy actor shared that he used to “imitate” the actor as a child.
Reynolds went on to credit the legendary star for inspiring his “Deadpool & Wolverine, we wrote it in the footprint of Planes, Trains and Automobiles.”
The Green Lantern actor noted that although he never got to meet Candy in person, the documentary provided him a “pathway of communication with [him].” |
