In Pakistan, the large fishing hat, locally known as \“sola topee\“ or \“safari hat\“, holds cultural significance beyond its practical use. While primarily used by fishermen in coastal areas like Karachi and Gwadar, these wide-brimmed hats have been adopted by farmers and outdoor workers across the country for protection against the intense sun.

Traditional Pakistani fishing hats are often made from local materials such as palm leaves or straw, featuring wider brims than Western versions to provide maximum shade. In Sindh province, artisans sometimes decorate these hats with colorful threads and mirrors, blending functionality with folk art.

During monsoon season, these hats serve dual purposes - protecting fishermen from both sun and rain. Many local vendors near fishing villages like Keamari sell handcrafted versions that have been used by generations of fishing families.
