Prince Harry not happy about jab at memoir Spare
Prince Harry could not conceal his real emotions as he appeared for a candid interview on Hasan Minhaj Doesn’t Know podcast on Wednesday.
The Duke of Sussex, who spoke extensively about mental health and the fears for children’s future as social media is blending with AI, appeared to humour the host, who has the ability to blend serious and important messages with the kind of mocking humour. Advertisement
Despite the seriousness of the discussion, there were moments of levity that Harry enjoyed, while there were some, which he did not, pointed out body language expert, Judi James.
She particularly noted a moment in which Harry didn’t seem happy when the subject of his memoir, Spare, came up and seemed disappointed by the trajectory Hasan had taken.
King Charles’s son tells Hasan that he is sweating and his discomfort begins to look obvious as the topic of Spare comes up and the “vulnerability” Harry showed in it.
“Harry’s change of expression suggests he believes this is the part where they talk seriously about his mental health,” Judi explained to The Mirror, “but the quote the host uses is about how Harry had to buy his clothes from TKMaxx, which again seems to wrong-foot Harry.”
The quote had been about how his “pa” had cut his “official clothing allowance” to formal attires only – something that seemed more in vain than an actual problem.
Harry did appear at a loss when Hasan did a dramatic reading of the quote but managed to laugh a little to play along. Judi did note that the Duke had been sneaking glances to the crew to “in need of support and even some advice about whether he should join in the mockery of himself or just drop out”.
Although, the intention behind Hasan’s humour did not seem to be of malicious intent. It only seemed that Harry was caught off-guard. |
