 King Frederik and Queen Mary honour Latvia’s heroes
King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark brought royal grace to Riga as they honoured Latvia’s fallen heroes during a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the city’s iconic Freedom Monument.
After officially signing into Riga Castle, the Danish royals made their way to the historic site, a towering symbol of Latvia’s independence and resilience.  The King and Queen signed into the guest book Advertisement
The monument, just a short walk from the castle, stands in tribute to the soldiers who gave their lives during the Latvian War of Independence.
The visit marks the beginning of a packed itinerary celebrating the close ties between Denmark and Latvia.
With warm handshakes, formal smiles, and the grandeur of Riga Castle as a backdrop, the Danish royals set the tone for a diplomatic trip blending tradition and international goodwill.
Taking to Instagram on Monday, the Danish palace revealed that King Frederik and Queen Mary are set for a grand three country tour, Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania with the first stop being Latvia on October 28th–29th, 2025.
Day two will bring a mix of culture and camaraderie, with visits to Ādaži Gymnasium and Ādaži Military Base, home to Denmark’s deployed troops.
The couple will wrap up their Baltic stop by hosting a special return event before moving on to their next destination. |
