The Prince of Wales arrived in Belém, Brazil, on Thursday morning (November 6) after flying in from Rio de Janeiro aboard the Prime Minister’s Government jet alongside Sir Keir Starmer, reports the Daily Express UK.Advertisement
The pair travelled nearly 2,000 miles to attend COP30, the United Nations’ annual climate conference — marking William’s first time attending an overseas COP summit without his father King Charles III.
At the event, William is expected to deliver a keynote address in front of world leaders. The royal previously attended COP26 in Glasgow in 2021, but it was Charles who delivered the speech that year.
This year, the future king is stepping in for his father, who opted to stay in the U.K. for Remembrance events. The 76-year-old monarch reportedly supported his son’s attendance, believing it would be wasteful for them both to make separate long-haul trips to Brazil.
Meanwhile, William arrived in Brazil earlier this week for a three-day trip to Rio, where he held the 5th annual Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony on November 5. Delivering a passionate speech at the ceremony the night before, William warned that there is “no time for complacency” in the fight against climate change.
“The choices we make during this decade will define us,” he told the 1,200 guests gathered at Rio’s Museum of Tomorrow. “Their work is the proof we need that progress is possible… It’s no exaggeration to say that they are the world’s true action heroes.”
Now, William is more than ready for his first solo COP30 summit, which he has been looking forward to since last month’s Countdown to COP30 event at The Natural History Museum, which he attended with King Charles.
