The whole world is crumbling under the climate crisis as natural disasters worsen every year, weathers become far more unpredictable leading fears over sustainability and access to food. In these times of crisis, William has remained relentlessly optimistic in his mission, according to former New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Arden.
Jacinda, who is a Trustee of The Earthshot Prize, spoke to Hello! about how her “friend” has shaped the programme into something “incredible”.
“His relentless optimism and unwavering quest to raise expectations have set the tone,” she wrote. “He reminds us that, when it comes to the challenges facing our planet, our job isn’t to give in to despair. It is to lead – with hope, optimism, urgency and solutions.”
She noted that optimism is not akin to naivety but a choice to say that “says we expect better and we expect more”. Jacinda believes in the importance of listening to voices from every corner and urged to hear the story of William’s Earthshot Prize.
The politician hailed the commitment of the project which aims to find practical solutions to the planet’s greatest problems and how the “astonishing” five-year plans will make a difference. She stressed that only way to solve this is “together, with every voice and every perspective”.
“The Earthshot Prize’s ambition for the next five years is astonishing; and let’s be honest, we all need more astonishing in the climate space right now. I cannot wait for Rio and all the inspiration it will bring, as we’re reminded of the innovative progress being made by so many.”
