When it comes to family privacy, Prince William isn’t playing games.

The heir to the throne has once again proved he’ll go to battle to protect his children this time taking on a French publication for crossing the line. Advertisement

Prince William and Kate have won a major legal victory against the French magazine Paris Match after it published long lens paparazzi photos of their private family skiing trip earlier this year.

The offending article splashed images of the couple and their three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis enjoying some snowy downtime in the Alps over the Easter holidays. But the French courts weren’t impressed.

A judge ruled that Paris Match had breached the family’s privacy and ordered the magazine to publish a formal judicial notice admitting the violation with a €10,000 penalty for every issue that fails to comply.

The publication has also been told to foot the royal couple’s legal bill in France.

Represented by top French lawyer Alain Toucas-Massillon, working through their UK firm Mishcon de Reya, the Waleses made it clear that when it comes to protecting their children, they mean business.

In a statement, a Kensington Palace spokesperson said, “Their Royal Highnesses The Prince and Princess of Wales have been successful in legal proceedings brought in France against the owner of Paris Match, which published a grossly intrusive article and long-lens paparazzi photographs of their private family holiday in the Alps in April.”

Kensington Palace isn’t mincing words when it comes to family privacy.

In a pointed statement following their court victory, the Prince and Princess of Wales made it clear that royal duties don’t mean sacrificing personal boundaries.

“The ruling affirms that, notwithstanding their public roles, Their Royal Highnesses and their children are entitled to respect for their private lives and family time free from unlawful interference and intrusion,” the statement read.

The Palace doubled down, adding that William and Kate remain “committed to protecting their private family time and ensuring their children can grow up without undue scrutiny.”
