Watch thrilling video how Russian cosmonauts step out for spacewalkIn a thrilling sight, two Russian cosmonauts completed their second spacewalk together, installing experiments and performing maintenance on the exterior of the International Space Station ISS on October 28, 2025, where space enthusiasts were lucky to watch the off-Earth action live.
NASA’s news chief, Cheryl Warner, on Monday, October 27, 2025, released a statement that the Roscosmos duo will install experiment hardware on the Nauka Multipurpose Laboratory Module MLM and relocate a control panel for the European Robotic Arm ERA attached to Nauka. /wp-content/uploads/2025/10/7986109359241790199.jpgPair of Russian cosmonauts conducting live spacewalk outside International Space Station ISS Advertisement
As reported by Space, Expedition 73 commander Sergey Ryzhikov and flight engineer Alexey Zubritsky from Roscosmos’ federal space corporation were back in the vacuum of space to continue and expand the work they began together during an extravehicular activity EVA on October 16, 2025.
The cosmonauts spent 6 hours and 54 minutes in outer space, relocating and cleaning hardware on the Nauka multipurpose laboratory module, MLM.
Following the space mission, cosmonauts installed an impulse plasma injector on the Nauka Module, replaced a cartridge in the equipment for growing semiconductors for the Ekran-M experiment, and cleaned a porthole. /wp-content/uploads/2025/10/2516167363700198229.jpg
The extravehicular activity began with Ryzhikov and Zubritsky opening the hatch on the Poisk Mini-Research Module and using a telescoping crane called the Strela boom to traverse to their first worksite on the ISS exterior Nauka MLM.
They tackled their first primary task, attaching a two-part apparatus to support a pulse plasma (Impuls) experiment and research into the effect that spacecraft have on Earth\“s Ionosphere.
The Impuls study in the latest experiment will test the potential for jet engines to work in space.
While between running connectors and moving on to the next installation, cosmonauts also cleaned a window and shutters on the Nauka Module as part of their maintenance operation task.
Moreover, the latest space mission followed the previous experiment, Ekran-M, or the Molecular Beam Epitaxy experiment, which was designed to produce fragile materials for use in semiconductors after a loose gasket was discovered in the device\“s chamber.
As instructed by the mission control panel, spacewalkers Ryzhikov and Zubritsky carefully inserted a replacement cassette into the Ekran-M, which will reportedly be returned to Earth for further analysis. /wp-content/uploads/2025/10/7357600971710816182.jpg
While completing the final step of the space mission, cosmonauts Ryzhikov and Zubritsky wrapped up their time outside by relocating an exterior control panel for the European Robotic Arm ERA, a manipulator that is used to access and service different areas of the Russian segment of the space station.
Furthermore, this was the third spacewalk for Ryzhikov, who commands the ISS on the current Expedition 73, and the second for flight engineer Zubritsky.
In addition, the new spacewalk on October 28, 2025, was the 277th in the history of the ISS, which has hosted rotating astronaut crews continuously since November 2, 2000, reports Space.
