Real story behind Buckingham Palace ‘passing traffic’ tip on Royal Lodge

Why Palace cancelled announcement after Royal Lodge ‘passing traffic’ tip

Ever since Prince Andrew relinquished of his royal titles and honours in a statement issued via the Buckingham Palace, there has been mounting pressure to remove him from the Royal Lodge.

It was reported that Prince William has been playing a leading role in the Andrew matter and King Charles has been supporting his heir for the decision to oust the disgraced royal and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson. Advertisement

Last week, the King had made a historic visit to the Holy See with Queen Camilla to meet Pope Leo XIV for the first time since he took the esteemed position. It also marked the first time in 500 years leaders of the Church of England and Catholic Church were praying side-by-side.

Meanwhile, significant moves were being made back in Palace after senior journalists received a tip on October 23rd, Thursday night, 8pm. Journalist Emily Maitlis shared that they received a message: “We may be expecting news from the Windsor estate later this evening where tv crews have been told to expect ‘passing traffic’.”

Reporters from media outlets rushed in a flurry and gathered outside of Windsor, and BBC had even deployed a chopper. In the buzz of all the activity, suddenly, the whole thing was called off.

Emily at the time wrote, “Crews have now been pulled and stood down. Very confusing.” Although the false alarm from the Palace only caused more suspense and mystery over the events. /wp-content/uploads/2025/10/8681074641253222247.jpg

Why Palace cancelled announcement at last-minute after ‘passing traffic’ tip

Following last week’s chaos, Emily gave a run-down on what had happened behind the scenes and why the Palace ended up pulling the plug on the whole matter.

“What we learned what was going to happen on Thursday was that Charles, fresh from the Vatican and his audience with the Pope, was going to come via Royal Lodge to be seen in other words reading the riot act to his brother.”

The tip was issued to the media but “nobody was going to film the conversation or see him stepping out the car but there was going to be the moment caught on camera of King Charles’s car heading to Royal Lodge”, she claimed.

She explained that the Palace got “very nervous” after they saw “choppers and helicopters”. They thought “this has all got too big, this has got out of control, they cancelled the whole thing”.
Buckingham Palace damage control

Emily quoted one of the reporters claiming that they were “stuck in a storm for five hours” as they asked to crews to reach the location but the Palace “chickened out” when broadcasters sent resources.

She noted that the Buckingham Palace is “angry” with the press saying that the “media created the circus” hence they called off whatever was going to happen. They added, “The circus was all in their own making.”
