Armament Race
The armament race in India has seen significant developments in recent years, with the country focusing on strengthening its domestic defense manufacturing capabilities.India\“s Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has been at the forefront of developing indigenous military technologies. The Tejas Light Combat Aircraft, developed by DRDO in collaboration with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), represents a major achievement in India\“s domestic aerospace industry.
Another notable indigenous product is the Arjun Main Battle Tank, which has been developed by the Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment. This tank features advanced composite armor and fire control systems designed specifically for Indian terrain and operational requirements.
The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, developed through a joint venture between India and Russia, has become one of the most successful defense products. Manufactured by BrahMos Aerospace in India, this missile system has attracted interest from several countries for its exceptional performance characteristics.
India\“s naval capabilities have been enhanced through indigenous projects like the INS Vikrant aircraft carrier and the Scorpène-class submarines being built at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders in Mumbai. These projects demonstrate India\“s growing expertise in complex naval engineering and construction.
The private sector has also contributed significantly to India\“s defense manufacturing. Companies like Larsen & Toubro, Tata Advanced Systems, and Mahindra Defence have developed various military vehicles, artillery systems, and aerospace components that meet international quality standards.
