People Are Divided Over Dax Shepard’s Comments On His Super Close Friendship With His Ex Of 9 Years After He Revealed That Kristen Bell Initially Had Concerns

“I think initially, when Kristen and I started dating, you were still coming over a lot because my mom was living at my house. You were around even in, like, the first month or two we were dating,” he said. Armchair Expert / Via youtube.com
“And initially was like, ‘This is really wild. I’m not friends with any of my exes. I don’t hang out with any.’ And I’m like, ‘I’m friends with all mine pretty much,’” he shared. Armchair Expert / Via youtube.com

Dax also noted that he was scared he’d never “be in love with someone again” in the same way that he loved Briegh following their split. “The breakup was manageable, but I will say, for a while, I did think, ‘Well, I’ll never be in love with someone again in that way,’” he said. “I had a deep fear. I’m like, ‘Oh, I don’t think I’ll ever really feel the way I felt about Briegh with anybody.’ I was quite scared of that.” Jb Lacroix / Getty Images
Reacting to the episode online, some fans were divided over Dax’s comments about his ex as they reacted to Kristen’s initial discomfort with the friendship.
“I don\“t necessarily think this is a model for everyone to follow,” one Reddit user said, while another echoed, “I don’t think that if my husband mentioned his ex even 1/4 of the amount of time Dax does, he would be my husband anymore.”
On the flip side, several people argued that Dax and Briegh’s friendship was an example of a “healthy breakup.”
“Kristen isn\“t threatened by her. This is someone he was with for around a decade and it didn\“t end badly where there was any hate. There\“s kind of a familial bond knowing someone that long,” one comment read.
“I think the amount he mentions her and the positive way in which he does is a good example of a healthy break up,” said another, while one more person echoed, “The fact that they went to therapy and realize that they truly don’t belong together even if they love each other is the healthiest part!”
